Flexural strength represents the ability of cement stone to withstand external shear and indirectly characterizes the toughness of cement. Another related property of cement slurry is impact strength, which is the energy consumed by the sample after impact. Impact strength is an indicator of the impact resistance of cement stone, and can also be used to evaluate the toughness of cement paste and quantitatively characterize the toughening effect.
Use 0% to 4% wt. % Various latex powders tested the compressive strength, flexural strength and impact strength of the latex powder-cement slurry mixed after curing for one day, and the results are as shown. Content, the bending strength of the sample increases, while the growth rate decreases. Increase to 4 wt. %, the flexural strength was recorded as 8.5 MPa, and the flexural strength was increased by about 40% compared with the free latex powder-cement slurry. At the same time, the impact strength increased at the best value recorded as 1.81 kJ/m2, corresponding to 3 wt. %, which reflects an increase of approximately 28% compared with free latex powder-cement slurry. However, under the same conditions, the compressive strength will decrease, but this will not significantly hinder the cementing process. Latex powder is a toughening material with better performance, because it can greatly improve the toughness of cement, but has little effect on the compressive strength.
